I can't agree more with a client's comment

I can't agree more with the following comment made by a client of a renowned Chinese law firm on some English-Chinese legal translation work provided by the firm's legal translator. I do not like those who prefer providing long Chinese sentences in legal translation in the name of "responding to" or "echoing" the original English legal writing styles. To express the same meaning in a more concise way without losing any target meaning is much more demanding than hiding what is intended in long sentences with complicated structures to decode. Simplicity is gold.

For the translation, the Agreement is for our standard contract template which will be used later in many occasions. We expect a quality translation. The long and complicated English sentences should be translated, to the maximum extent possible, into simple Chinese which fits into Chinese writing and reading habit and is easy to be understood. This is a high requirement calling for skills and and experience for the translator. We have previously asked other Chinese law firms to do translation for other legal documents. I always found that I myself have to review, proofread and revise. This has frustrated our purpose of retaining an outside law firm to do the translation. We hope to find a good legal translator who could achieve both accuracy a plain Chinese writing style and who could achieve both accuracy a plain Chinese writing style and whose work we could rely on and use directly without proofreading and revising. In simple words, we expect an international lawyer's professional standard and responsibility in such translation.
